Nok

Weaver

Nok, 24, is a young weaver of Lahanam village and the daughter of Mae Noy. Apart from weaving, Nok has another important role – she is a volunteer English Language teacher at Lahanam High School.

Nok learned to weave when she was 10 years old from her mother after school each day. She loves to learn so much that even though her mother did not know how to tie the weft yarn to produce the “ikat” pattern, she asked her friend to teach her this skill. She now not only knows how to tie the weft yarn for
making the ikat pattern, but she now also teaches her mother how to do it.

As a volunteer English Language teacher, Nok does not receive any salary, so income from her weaving helps her earn some money for her own use as well as help out her family.
